Sorry For The Delay!

As a newer book blogger/reviewer it pains me to not have a new book review for such a long time. Not only because it means that I haven’t read (finished) anything in a while, but also because I want to stay current and have a new review for you every other week at the latest.

So here’s the scoop. I picked up The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling and just couldn’t get into the plot. The first quarter, which is as far as I read, was character driven and very descriptive. The writing in that regard was phenomenal but I just didn’t connect with the storyline.

My book club book was calling/screaming/yelling at me as our next meeting was only two weeks away. So I started A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving and was thrilled to do so as I had wanted to dive into this book for many years. After about 50 pages in, I was bored silly. I love this author and had heard this is one of his best, but I was having a full blown war with it! There were so many arguments going through my head: β€œDo I continue with you?” β€œWhy haven’t you sucked me in?” and my most inquiring thought was, β€œIs it me or is it you?”

Seriously folks, there are books that you have to be in the right place for and by place I mean everything. What did you read last? Are you ready for a deeper book? Is the weather outside giving you the blues, so only something light would do? Have you read too much historical fiction lately and need to get into this century? Are Thanksgiving preparations stressing you out so much that anything but a cookbook would be a good read.? There are a multitude of reasons why you chose each new book from your TBR pile and sometimes your choice just wasn’t meant to be.

With that being said, I’ll pick up both of these unfinished books at another time and give them another chance so I’ll finally learn if it was me or them! Until then, I’m deep into another book and be sure to review it soon!
